Black Shark
(Labeo chrysophekadion)

I have seen a large 45 cm specimen of the black shark in a coldwater aquarium in the company of koi carp. Apparently the temperature of the tank goes down to 12° C, so this fish must be a potential 'cool tropical'. It is shy but can be rather aggressive and given to chasing other members of its own species. This makes it unsuitable as a community species except with larger fish, though I've also kept it with quite small livebearers which it doesn't seem to bother. The black shark is somewhat overshadowed by its more colourful cousins of the same genus. Like all members of its genus it comes from Indonesia and Thailand. It is a bottom feeder and will also occasionally nibble algae.
